Fishing on Lake Conroe is good but dodging the wind and the cold fronts has become a way of life. The surface temperature of the water is running 58 degrees in the main lake. The water is clear. The level yesterday at 8:45 a.m. was still little over a foot below pool at 199.90 feet.

My top five “fishing holes” for spring trout fishing.I’m not a fancy fly fisherman; I’ve tried it and just can’t get the knack. I like to sit, relax and enjoy the surroundings while I fish. I also like to keep and eat what I catch. I based my top spots on these factors; great fishing, great views and the ease of getting there.

Despite the fact that I am for deregulation of the striped bass harvest, I still love fishing for them, especially in the California Aqueduct where the limit in the Southern Valley District holds at 2 fish, 18 inches or better. The great fishing reported all during the recent warm spell will likely end with the arrival of cooler temperatures and increased winds this weekend. So, we’re not really reporting on fishing as much as trying to guess how the changing conditions will affect the bass and crappie.
